On this page we look into the teaching of not only the teaching of Bishop Rhoades but from Pope Francis as well.
The Pope’s view
Pope Francis came with the idea that was called ‘’very rare’’ in which an execution of a criminal is sanctioned but, (whatever their misdeeds a criminal remains a person and therefore capable of remorse, they can have a converse action of heart and act for redemption). Pope John Paul had said that, ‘’Not even a murderer loses his personal dignity, and God himself pledges to guarente this’’ he describes it is Cruel and Unnecessary. A letter to the Bishops explained by Cardinal Ledaria said that they had developed an environment to where it was more difficult to guarante a criminal could not repeat again wich leads into the death penalty. Although the church is cnsistent with the movement to abolish the death penalty. More than 140 countries have eliminated it, or stopped executions by legal order facto Moratoriums. Around a third of the world countries use the Death Penalty as a part of their legal code. In the United States there are atleast 34 States where the Death Penalty is legal. The capital punishment was a (Vendetta) one that makes killers of those who inflict it by eliminating the Death Penalty. The Catechism teachings does not exclude recourse to the Death Penalty. The only way to define human lives is affectively against the aggressor, says that today there isnt as much cases that involve the Death Penalty because they are rare and non existent practically.
Bishop Rhoades’ views
Bishop Rhoades asks president trump to rescind the U.S justice department’s decision to resume capital punishment later this year. He asks respectfully that the sentences of all federal death row inmates be commuted to life imprisonment. He is not saying the crimes of which those people commit are right and he mourns the losses of the family’s. He encourages all people of good will to support and provide spiritual, pastoral and personal support. All life is a gift from God and each life has dignity. Taking human life is justifiable only in self-defense, and once the aggressor has been put in jail they are no longer a threat to society.
