Here are your frequently asked questions
We took questions about the death penalty for all over the internet and give Catholic answers
Expertizes
“Many people have been freed from death row after being proven innocent. What about when we are 100% sure they’re guilty? Wouldn’t we be safer?”
While it is true that we could possibly be safer without people who have been guilty in the world, we have better ways to guarantee the safety of people such as solitary confinement without parole. Keeping someone locked up and away from people is better than death.
“Don’t Murderers deserve to die?’’
Well all lives matter because as long as God still loves and forgives them they can live and redeem themselves for mercy. They need some time to really understand and realize what situation they are in so they can solve it and find another path. That is what jail is for because usually when people go to jail they end up being sorry for what they did and end their grudges against the one they have killed or hurt.
‘’If execution is unacceptable, what is the alternative’’
You could put them in cell boxes in the dark so they can’t see or like sentence them to 30 years if they are at the age of 20 and older. You could put them in a claustrophobic small padded place so they can hurt themselves or try to get out. They will use that time to realize what they have done and redeem themselves. Every person doesn’t deserve to die they have to have consequences so they can act and gain mercy.
“Only murderers are sent to death row, right?”
While this is something many people think it’s not quite true. People can be sent to death row for murder. In fact this is what a lot of famous serial killers faced such as Ted Bundy. So yes, people who murder go to death row, but that’s not all. Though, most are convicted because of vicious crimes, a main point for people’s arrest is race, gender, and even where they live.
“Doesn’t the death penalty prevent crime?”
It is one way but it is an unnecessary way to prevent crime. Once the person is put in jail they are no longer a threat to society.
“Don’t the victim deserve justice?”
Justice could be found in other things, not death. Because taking a life is not right but taking their life makes you just the same (taking a life).
